Air Force Duo Closes out Season at NCAA Championships

    NORMAN, Okla. - Junior James Okamoto and freshman Greg Chaput wrapped up the 2012 season for the Air Force men's gymnastics team this evening (April 20) during the individual event preliminaries of the NCAA National Championship meet in Norman, Okla.

    Okamoto, who advanced to the event preliminaries of the national meet for the second straight year, scored a 14.250 on the pommel horse to tie for 24th in the 51-gymnast field, while Chaput scored a 12.000 on the same event to place 47th.

    With a team score of 358.850, Illinois won its first national title since 1989. The Illini, who entered the meet ranked fourth in the national standings, edged out host and top-ranked Oklahoma (357.450), while second-ranked Penn State took fourth with a 354.800. No. 8 California (353.000), No. 3 Stanford (352.650) and No. 6 Michigan (351.050) rounded out the team standings, while Oklahoma's Jake Dalton won the all-around title with a score of 91.000.
