IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 11th-ranked Air Force men’s gymnastics team closed out the regular season with a third-place finish at the Iowa Triangular on Sunday, March 11, in Iowa City. The Falcons scored a 388.600 to finish behind ninth-ranked Iowa (405.950) and sixth-ranked Minnesota (400.750) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Lukas Texeira collected an event title this afternoon, as he registered a 13.950 to finish first out of 15 gymnasts on the high bar. The junior paced Air Force to a pair of finishes within the top half of the field on that event, as classmate Eric Klein tied for sixth with a score of 13.300. Klein also helped the Falcons to three placements within the top seven on the vault, as he and fellow junior Jonah Urlaub tied for the team lead (fourth) with matching scores of 14.000 and freshman Frankie Valentin added a seventh-place finish on the vault with a score of 13.850. Air Force also accounted for multiple finishes within the top half of the 15-gymnast field on the parallel bars, as freshmen Ethan Esval and Allen Shadan tied for fourth (13.600) and sixth (13.500), respectively.
Senior Fletcher Braunton recorded the squad’s second-best individual placement of the day, as he tied for third on the still rings with a score of 13.800. Junior Christian Kalustian finished within the top half of the field on the floor exercise, as he tied for sixth with a team-leading 13.450, and classmate Jonah Urlaub finished 10th on the pommel horse (12.600) to round out the Falcons’ list of event leaders.
With the regular season complete, the Falcons are off from competition until March 30-31, when they open the championship portion of the 2018 campaign hosting the USAG Collegiate Nationals.
