Falcons Place Fourth at Illinois-Chicago Quad

CHICAGO, Ill. - The 12th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team recorded its second-highest score of the season to place fourth in a quadrangular meet that featured two of the top three teams in the country on Friday, March 4, in Chicago, Ill. Senior Nash Mills posted the program's best finish of the night, as he placed third on the vault.
Second-ranked Stanford won the meet with a combined score of 357.800, while third-ranked Illinois took second with a 351.600. Host and 13th-ranked Illinois-Chicago totaled 340.200 to take third, while Air Force rounded out the quartet with a mark of 338.000.
Mills scored a 15.800 to place third on the vault, scoring just .100 below the meet's co-champions. Air Force also picked up a pair of 10th-place scores on that event, as freshman Colton Wulf and sophomore Tory Brown tied for 10th with matching marks of 15.400.
The trio also placed within the top half of the 24-man field on the high bar, with Brown claiming the team's top finish behind a ninth-place score of 14.100. Mills and Wulf tied for 11th on that event with equal scores of 14.000.
Mills was also the program's leading scorer on the still rings and parallel bars, while finishing within the top half of the field on the pommel horse (13.700, 12th). Mills finished seventh on the rings with a 14.400, while tallying a 14.100 to take ninth on the parallel bars. Junior Devin Menefee and senior Matt Thorne also placed within the top 12 of those events. Menefee tied for 11th on the rings with a score of 14.200, while Thorne earned the same placement on the parallel bars with a 13.900.
Wulf was the Falcons' top finisher on the floor exercise, scoring a 14.500 to place seventh, while classmate Mac Ritchie scored a 14.400 to tie for ninth. Sophomore Nick Owen claimed the team-lead on the pommel horse, scoring a career-best 14.100 to tie for 10th.
Mills also finished fourth in the all-around (85.500), while Wulf placed fifth (81.900).
The Falcons and UIC return to action on Sunday, March 6, joining No. 9 Ohio State and No. 11 Temple for another quad meet at Illinois-Chicago's Physical Education Building.
