SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The 11th-ranked Air Force men’s gymnastics team captured its eighth consecutive team title at the All-Academy Championships this afternoon (Feb. 10) in San Antonio, as it registered a season-high score of 403.850 to easily defeat service academy rivals from No. 9 Navy (400.200) and No. 14 Army West Point (399.550).
Senior Fletcher Braunton and junior Casey Branin combined for three individual titles, as the Falcons combined for eight top-three finishes at the Mission Concepcion Sport Complex. Braunton won the pommel horse (14.000) and still rings (13.950), while Branin collected a 14.400 – the second-highest score in program history – to win the floor exercise.
Air Force claimed the top-five scores on the still rings. Braunton paced freshman Frankie Valentin (second, 13.900) and senior Michael Graft (third, 13.800) to podium finishes, while freshmen Ethan Esval finished fourth (13.750) and classmate Scott McMurray tied for fifth (13.500).
The Falcons also registered the top-two marks on the floor exercise, as junior Ryan Girouard garnered a 14.200 to finish second. Fellow junior Lukas Texeira added runner-up honors on the high bar (14.100), while classmate Christian Kalustian earned the same placement on the vault (14.350).
Branin also accounted for a fourth-place finish on the pommel horse (13.700), while classmate Eric Klein finished fourth on the vault. Freshman Allen Shadan rounded out the Falcons’ list of top-five finishers, as he scored a 13.000 to pace the Falcons on the parallel bars (fifth).
The Falcons, which will host an intrasquad meet on Feb. 24, are off from team competition until Saturday, March 3, when they travel to the State Fair Ground in Columbus, Ohio, for the Arnold Challenge.
