SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The 10th-ranked Air Force men’s gymnastics completed a perfect road trip to the East Coast this afternoon (Jan. 28), as it downed Springfield College by a 397.100-387.200 margin at Blake Arena. The Falcons, who defeated Army West Point on Friday night, captured four first-place finishes on the day.
Senior Fletcher Braunton (pommel horse, 14.200), junior Ryan Girouard (floor exercise, 13.800), classmate Christian Kalustian (vault, 14.300) and fellow junior Lukas Texeira (high bar, 13.450) collected event titles for the Falcons, who improved their overall season total by nearly three points during today’s meet.
Braunton paced the Falcons to five of the top-six scores on the pommel horse. Junior Casey Branin and freshman Scott McMurray tied for second with matching scores of 13.600, while junior Jonah Urlaub and senior Michael Graft finished fourth (13.400) and sixth (13.200), respectively.
In addition to his victory on the pommel horse, Braunton also led the Air Force on the still rings, as he scored a 12.950 to finish third in the 12-gymnast event. The Falcons accounted for five of the top-six scores on that event, as Graft and Texeira finished fourth (12.850) and fifth (12.700), respectively, and freshmen Ethan Esval and Frankie Valentin tied for sixth with matching scores of 12.600. Urlaub and Branin tied for the team’s top finish on the parallel bars with matching scores of 13.200.
Air Force returns to the Academy next Saturday (Feb. 3), when they host Minnesota at Cadet West Gym.
