JUNIOR YEAR | 2014: Competed on the still rings in all but one team completion...recorded a season-best 15.200 on that event to finish third at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships...that score was ranked third on the team in 2014...also reached the 15-point mark during the season-opening Rocky Mountain Open (15.000)...served on the pommel horse rotation during 11 meets...recorded a career-high 14.700 to finish third during the dual meet with Minnesota...that score is ranked ninth on the program's all-time list...named to the CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2013: USAG All-American on the still rings...finished second on that event at the USAG National Championships with a score of 14.900...tallied a career-best mark of 15.400 in a winning performance at Arizona State...that score is ranked seventh on the Academy's all-time list...added three additional marks that are listed among the program's top-20...also competed on the pommel horse...scored a career-high 14.000 in back-to-back meets at Oklahoma and at Illinois-Chicago...those scores are tied for 16th on the program's all-time list...earned the program's Most Improved award.
FRESHMAN YEAR | 2012: Competed on the still rings during nine competitions...recorded a career-high 14.300 during the first home dual with Illinois-Chicago...also surpassed the 14-point mark against Minnesota (14.000) at Temple (14.100) and during the second meet with UIC (14.200)...also competed on the pommel horse in four meet...scored a personal-best 13.200 in the first UIC meet.
HIGH SCHOOL | CLUB TEAM: Capistrano Connections Academy...competed at the club level for New Hope Academy of Gymnastics in Fountain Valley, California...coached by Guonian Wu...ranked third in the nation on the still rings two years in a row (2010, 2011)...five-time qualifier to the Junior Olympic Nationals...ranked first on the still rings and second on the pommel horse in Region 1 (California, Hawaii, Nevada, Arizona) during 2011...four-time USA Gymnastics Academic All-American...member of the Level 10 team that won the state championship...also a member of the club team that won the Iron Man Competition (top club in Southern California).
PERSONAL: Full name is Jonathan Scott Spiro...goes by Jon...nickname is "Hollywood"...son of Scott and Patsy Spiro...has one younger brother, Nick, who is also a gymnast...majoring in legal studies...future plans include becoming a JAG...serving as Character Officer and Squadron PEER during the Fall of 2014...also served as MWR Officer and Flight Commander for the Academy's Summer Seminar in 2014, as well as the Assistant Flight Commander of Basic Cadet Training (second session)...commanded the BCT flight that was ranked first out of 40 flights...hobbies include going to the beach, anything on the water and being tan...also plays the electric guitar...has one grandfather who was enlisted in the Air Force for 27 years...also has a grandfather that served in the Air Force for several years as a flight surgeon...favorite events are the still rings and pommel horse...member of Cadet Squadron 20.
