Falcons Kick Off 2013 Hosting Rocky Mountain Open

The 32nd-annual meet begins at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Cadet West Gym.

JUNIOR YEAR | 2015: USAG national champion on the vault...scored a 14.700 during the event finals of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships to win first title by 0.250 points...USAG All-American...competed on the vault during the final eight team competitions of the year...scored a career-best 14.800 in the dual meet with Washington...that score is ranked eighth on the Academy’s all-time list...added a top-10 all-time mark with the 14.700 in the USAG Event Finals (10th).

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014: Competed on the vault in six meets...scored a season-high 14.650 during the Falcons’ second win over Illinois-Chicago...made season-debut at Nebraska (14.100).

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013: Competed on the vault in nine team competitions, including the NCAA National Qualifier...scored a career-best 14.750 in collegiate debut at the Rocky Mountain Open...tied for second among collegiate competitors at that meet...that score matched the (then) Academy record...placed third against Army with a score of 14.600...also competed on the floor exercise during the first four meets of the season...recorded a personal-best 14.250 against Minnesota.

HIGH SCHOOL | CLUB TEAM: Cimarron Memorial High School…recipient of the Presidential Award…also earned the Millennium Scholarship…competed at the club level for Go For It Gym…coached by Nalani Cook…Nevada state champion…regional finalist on the vault.

PERSONAL: Full name is Vaughn Joshua Pyne…goes by Josh…nickname is “JJ”…son of Vaughn and Sue Pyne…has three younger siblings – Justine, Taya and Riayn…planning to major in either economics or management…hobbies include dancing…first member of family to serve in the military…favorite event is the floor exercise, because “it is the least restricting of the events, and it’s fun to just go all out on the event”…member of Cadet Squadron 17.
