Tory Brown to Compete at Winter Cup Challenge

The junior will compete in the 1 p.m. (PST) session on Feb. 2, in Las Vegas, Nev.

SENIOR YEAR (2013): Team captain.

JUNIOR YEAR (2012): Competed on the floor exercise, vault, parallel bars and high bar...missed several meets with an injury sustained at the Winter Cup Challenge...claimed event titles on the high bar during the March 4 meet against Illinois-Chicago and the March 9 meet at Arizona State...tallied a season-high 14.250 on that event at Nebraska...scored a career-high 14.600 on the vault during the NCAA National Qualifier...that mark was the third-highest score in program history using the new scoring system...also recorded a season-high score of 14.200 on the floor exercise at the NCAA National Qualifier...opened the season with a season-best 13.800 on the parallel bars at the Rocky Mountain Open...became the first-ever Air Force gymnast to receive three straight invitations to the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge.

SOPHOMORE (2011): USAG National Champion on the vault...matched the Academy record on that event with a 15.950 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships...placed seventh at the conference meet with that score...three-time USAG All-American...placed fourth on the floor exercise and high bar, in addition to winning the vault title...claimed six first-place finishes on the year...won the vault at the All-Academy Championships, at Springfield and at the USAG Championships...also shared titles on the high bar at the all-academy meet and at Brockport...won the parallel bars in the home meet with Army...helped Air Force sweep the event titles in the dual meet with the Black Knights...competed at the Winter Cup Challenge, collecting three top-four finishes in the preliminary round and two career-best scores...finished 15th on the vault at the NCAA Championships (Event Preliminary)...competed on the floor exercise in every team competition...recorded a career-best 14.900 on the floor in the regular season finale against Washington...that score is the seventh-highest score in Academy history...also recorded a career-high mark on the parallel bars (14.300) at the meet against Washington...that score is ranked 11th on the Falcons' all-time list...scored a career-best 14.500 on the high bar at Brockport...that mark is tied for sixth on the program's all-time list...led the team on the vault, posted the squad's second-highest scores of the season on the floor exercise and parallel bars and ranked third on the team on the high bar.

FRESHMAN YEAR (2010): Competed in six meets, including the Winter Cup Challenge...placed eighth on the vault at that meet with a career-best score of 15.600...that score is the seventh-best score in Academy history...competed on the floor exercise, vault, parallel bars and high bar during the first two team competitions...scored a season-best 14.150 on the floor at the Rocky Mountain Open...added career-best scores on the parallel bars (13.550) and high bar (13.400) at the Minnesota Triangular...also competed on the parallel bars and high bar at Army...was a member of the Falcons' high bar rotation at the USAG Championships and MPSF Championships.

HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: Tigard High School...recipient of the Rotary Award...competed at the club level for Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC)...coached by Shuichi Goto...named 2008 Most Improved Gymnast...two-time Academic All-America honor at the Junior Olympic National Championships...three-time junior national qualifier...2009 Oregon state gymnastics champion...finished second at the Region 2 Championships.

PERSONAL: Son of Steve and Kelly Brown...has one younger sister, Julia...majoring in management, while earning a minor in Japanese...future career plans include becoming a pilot...served as a four-degree coach...spent the Fall 2011 semester in Japan as a part of the Academy's semester abroad program...hobbies include paddle boarding, hiking, running and rock fluent in Japanese...favorite event is the high bar, because "learning new skills is the most fun"...member of Cadet Squadron 30.
