USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior Tyler Huebner was named the athletic department's Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 18, after setting a new Academy-record on the still rings during a road win at service academy rival Army last Friday.
Recording a still rings score of 15.800 during the ninth-ranked Falcons' win over 13th-ranked Army on Feb. 14, Huebner bettered the field by nearly one point. Becoming the first Air Force gymnast since 2009 to impact the program's top five, Huebner broke the program's 2008 mark of 15.700. Nationally, his mark is the fourth-highest rings' score of the year.
The senior also captured an event title the following night (Feb. 15), as his wining 14.700 score helped Air Force to a 21-point victory over 16th-ranked Temple and 17th-ranked Illinois-Chicago in Philadelphia.
Huebner shared the department's weekly honor with track and field athlete Grant Hamilton, who set an Academy record in the shot put. Off from team competition this week, the Falcons return to action on Friday, Feb. 28, with the first of two dual meets against Illinois-Chicago at the Academy's Cadet Gym.
