U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Former Air Force golfer Tom Whitney, a 2010 Academy graduate, shot a 63 on Monday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club to qualify for the Shriners Hospital for Children Open, Nov. 2-5, at the TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nev. Whitney will be the first former Falcon to play in a PGA event.
Whitney ranks 89th on the Web.Com Tour, having a stroke average of 70.38 and one top-10 finish in 15 events. Whitney shot a 13-under 271 to tie for fifth Lincoln Land Charity Championship, June 22-25, 2017, in Springfield, Ill.
The native of La Quinta, Calif., was the Falcons’ team MVP in 2010. A finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, he was a two-time all-Mountain West selection and two-time NCAA Regional qualifier.
