The Air Force golf team will travel north on I-25 for the annual Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado, Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 25-26. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
The 19-team field will be participating in a 54-hole tournament to be played at the par 72, 7,676-yard Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo. The golfers will play 36 holes in a shotgun start on Monday, Sept. 25 starting at 8 am. Pairings for Tuesday’s tee times for the final 18 holes, will be determined by team score. The low four individual scores will determine the team scores for each round.

LAST SEASON AT THE MARK SIMPSON
At last season’s CU Mark Simpson Invitational, the Falcons fired a three-under-par 285 on the final day to place sixth out of 19 teams at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo. Air Force shot a three-round total of 861 (-3). Both the score and place were the best ever for the Falcons in the CU Invitational. Colorado won its own tournament for the fourth straight season by shooting a team score of 20-under, 844. Air Force started the day in 10th place, but the final-round 285 was the third best score of any team in the tournament. In the final round, the team’s consistency was on display as Brenden Bone (graduated) shot 69, Tate Tatom shot 71, Sunwoo Choi (graduated) shot 72 and Todd Millard shot 73.
LAST WEEK’S RESULTS
The Air Force golf team placed 15th at the CSU Ram Masters at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. Air Force shot an 884 (+44) in the 19-team field. Junior Tate Tatom was the top Falcon, tying for 12th place with a one-over par 211 (72-70-69). Andy Germann, competing as an individual, tied for 42nd with a nine-over 219 (72-71-76).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Junior Tate Tatom leads the Falcons with a season stroke average of 70.67. After back-to-back rounds of 72 in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, he shot a career-best (tied) 69 on the final day to go three-under for the tournament. At the CSU Ram Masters, he tied his career-best with a 69 in the final round. Sophomore Joseph Crisostomo is second with a 73.83. He owns the Falcons’ lowest round of the season, firing a career-best (tied) four-under par 68 on the second day of the Falcon Invitational. Junior Bryant Falconello is third with a 74.00.
ABOUT THE COACH
George Koury is in his 16th season as the head coach at Air Force. Before taking over in 2002, Koury spent three seasons as an assistant coach. A 1993 Academy graduate, Koury competed on the golf team from 1990-93, serving as team captain and earning MVP honors as a senior. Koury is assisted by Tyler Goulding, a 2007 Academy graduate, who was a two-year team captain and three-time MVP. He is in his first season with the Falcons after spending three seasons as an assistant at the University of Southern California.

Following the CU Mark Simpson Invitational, the Falcons will continue the Colorado tour with the annual Paintbrush Invitational, hosted by the University of Denver, Oct. 9-10, in Parker, Colo.
