Golf Team Hosts 43rd Annual Falcon Invitational

This WeekThe Air Force golf team hosts the 43rd annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the par-72, 7,363-yard Eisenhower Golf Club - Blue Course on Sunday-Monday, Sept. 18-19. The 54-hole tournament is slated to begin with two rounds on Sunday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start, while the final round will begin Monday at 7:30 a.m., with tee times off of holes Nos. 1 and 10. The FieldNineteen teams are slated to compete in this year’s invitational. They are: Air Force, Air Force JV, Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, North Carolina State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, San Diego, Southern Utah, UCCS, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming. About the Gene Miranda Falcon InvitationalThis fall, the Falcon Invitational enters its 43rd season. Formerly known as the Rocky Mountain Invitational and the Pikes Peak Invitational, the event was re-named the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in 2003, in honor of the legendary coach who headed up the Air Force program for 25 years. In 2010, UCCS captured the team title at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational with a score of 861 (-3) eight strokes ahead of nationally ranked San Diego. Meanwhile, Colorado State’s Ryan Peterson won medalist honors, carding a nine-under par 207. Last Time OutThe Falcons finished 11th at the season-opening Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in Erie, Colo. Sophomore Kyle Westmoreland was AFA’s top finisher, shooting a five-over par 221 in the three-round tourney. He finished in a tie for 36th place. Eisenhower Blue Course Named One of the BestIn its recent list of the Best Campus Courses, Golfweek has recognized the Eisenhower Golf Club - Blue Course as one of the best in the nation. The Falcons’ home course checks in at No. 21 on the list and is one of just two Mountain West Conference home courses to be recognized (New Mexico’s Championship Course is listed at No. 13). Up NextAir Force travels to Albuquerque, N.M. to participate in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Tournament on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The tournament is hosted by the University of New Mexico.
