Whitney Finishes Competition at Colorado Open

DENVER, Colo. - Despite turning in an even-par 71 on Friday, Air Force golfer Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) missed the cut at the 2009 HealthONE Colorado Open, with a two-round score of 145 (+3). Whitney finished two shots over the cut mark at the Colorado Open, which is being held at the par-71, 7,211-yard Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. He finished Friday tied for 70th overall, as the field was cut to the low 60 scores, as well as any ties. Whitney was also tied for 11th among amateurs competing in the event. Derek Tolan of Highlands Ranch, Colo., sits atop the leaderboard after two rounds at the Colorado Open with an 11-under-par 131. Whitney still has another event on his summer schedule, as he is slated to compete at the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying at Boulder Country Club on Aug. 3. The top three players at the Sectional Qualifying will advance to the U.S. Amateur, which will be held Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla.
