Pair of Air Force Golfers Earn Academic All-MWC Accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two Air Force golfers were among the 732 student-athletes named to the spring 2011 Academic All-Mountain West team, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) earned academic all-conference honors for the third time, while Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) garnered the second academic All-MWC accolades of his career. Bailey, the Falcons' team captain and MVP in 2011, graduated from the Academy in May with a 3.15 GPA in computer science. Bailey competed in 11 of 12 tournaments during the 2010-11 season, leading the Falcons in four events. In addition, Bailey registered the best MWC Championship finish of his career, tying for 31st place. Meanwhile, Leestma, a rising senior with a 3.04 GPA in systems engineering management, also competed in 11 of 12 tournaments for the Falcons this season. He earned all-tournament honors at the Service Academy Golf Classic, capturing fourth place at the event. The spring 2011 Academic All-Mountain West team included athletes in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
