Pair of Air Force Golfers Earn Academic All-MWC Honors

Colorado Springs, Colo. - A pair of Air Force golfers were among the 730 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Mountain West Conference team, as announced by the league Thursday afternoon. Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) and Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each earned their first academic all-conference selections.

Whitney, the Falcons' MVP in 2008, graduated from the Academy in May with a 3.20 GPA in environmental engineering. One of the most experience golfers on this year's squad, he participated in 10 tournaments during the 2007-08 season. Meanwhile, O'Bryant, Air Force's team captain this past season, is a rising senior management major with a 3.05 GPA. O'Bryant competed in all 12 events for the Falcons this year and finished second on the team with a stroke average of 74.9.

The spring 2008 Academic all-conference team included athletes in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
