Kyle Westmoreland Named to All-Mountain West Golf Team
May 9, 2013
Air Force junior Kyle Westmoreland was named to the 2012-13 all-Mountain West golf team on Thursday. The league's nine men's head coaches picked the all-conference teams, as well as the coach, golfer and freshman of the year.
Westmoreland, who was selected to compete in the 2013 NCAA Golf Regional Championships earlier this week, is currently ranked No. 2 in the Mountain West with a season stroke average of 71.8. He posted four top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes this year, including a win at the Jackrabbit Invitational in March and an eighth-place finish at last weekend’s Mountain West Championships.
He is the fourth player from Air Force to earn a spot on the all-MW team and the first since Tom Whitney in 2010. Westmoreland’s stroke average is the second-best in program history behind Whitney’s 71.7 during the 2009-10 season.
New Mexico senior James Erkenbeck was selected as Mountain West Golfer of the Year, while Riccardo Michelini of San Diego State was named MW Freshman of the Year. MW Coach of the Year honors went to Glen Millican of New Mexico.
