The Air Force golf team concludes the 2007 season this week, April 26-28, when they head to Tucson, Ariz., to take part in the Mountain West Conference Championship. The 54-hole tournament, which will tee off at 8:30 a.m. (PT) each morning, is being held at the par-71, 7,136-yard Catalina Course at Tucson National. Live stats for all three rounds will be available at golfstat.com.

    Last Time Out...
Air Force finished 17th overall at the PING Golf Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU. Leading the way for the Falcons at the event was senior Tyler Goulding, who tied for sixth overall with a 5-under-par 211. Also competing for Air Force were Shaun O'Bryant, Chad Follett, Andrew Gibson and Jared Freeman.

    Head Coach George Koury...
Air Force head coach George Koury is in his fifth season at the helm of the Falcons' golf program. After serving three seasons as an assistant under legendary coach Gene Miranda, Koury took over the program at the start of the 2002-03 season.

In his first four seasons as head coach, Koury, a 1993 Academy graduate and former team captain and MVP, has helped the Falcons continue their dominance at the Service Academy Golf Classic. Air Force has now won the Reemtsma Trophy, given to the winner of the SAGC, for 12 straight seasons. In addition, Koury helped lead Air Force to the team title at last fall's Falcon Invitational, marking the first time since the inaugural event in 1969 that the team won its own tournament outright.

    The Field...
The MWC Championship will feature all nine teams in the conference, including UNLV and BYU, both ranked in the top 15 nationally. The complete field is listed below, with the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings in parentheses: Air Force (182), BYU (14), Colorado State (68), New Mexico (52), San Diego State (50), TCU (31), UNLV (8), Utah (93) and Wyoming (225).

Last Year at the MWC Championship...
New Mexico captured its fourth-straight conference title at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Championship, led by medalist Jay Choi. Air Force finished ninth overall, with junior Tyler Goulding leading the way, placing in a tie for 12th place.

    Falcons In the Record Book...
With its performances at the Falcon Invitational, Wolf Pack Classic and District 7 Shootout, Air Force made a few new entries in the program's record books. Air Force's team score of 864 at both the Falcon Invitational and District 7 Shootout ranks second on the list of lowest team scores (54-holes) in school history, while its score of 875 at the Wolf Pack Classic is tied for ninth in the record books.

Meanwhile, freshman Tom Whitney and senior Tyler Goulding have both made their marks on the individual record book this season. Goulding fired a personal-best 209 at the Ron Moore Invitational, tying for third place on the individual list, while Whitney finished at 210, tying for sixth in the record books, en route to medalist honors at the Service Academy Golf Classic. Goulding twice finished at 211 for the season, while Whitney also scored a 211 in the fall.

Both Whitney and Goulding made impressions on the Air Force record book in other ways--Whitney's third-round score of 66 at Eisenhower is tied for the lowest in Air Force history. Meanwhile, Goulding has now shot 214 or better 13 times in his career, more than any other Air Force golfer.
