Air Force Golfers Head to Ron Moore Invitational

    The Air Force golf team returns to action this weekend, March 21-23 at the Ron Moore Invitational, hosted by Denver. The 54-hole tournament, being played at the par-72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz., is slated to begin Friday at 7:00 a.m. (PT). One 18-hole round will be played each day.

    Last Time Out...
    Led by junior Shaun O'Bryant, Air Force finished 15th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championships March 7-9. Competing against seven of the top 10 teams in the nation, the Falcons scored a three-round total of 954.

    The Field...
    Seventeen teams and 27 individuals are slated to compete in this week's tournament. The teams, with the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings in parentheses, include: Air Force (187), Boise State (113), Colorado State (97), Denver (103), Hawaii (181), Iowa (105), Iowa State (80), Kansas (149), Kansas State (79), New Mexico State (99), Northern Iowa (158), Ohio State (50), San Diego (77), Southern Utah (145) and Utah (108) .

    In the Record Books...
    Sophomore Tom Whitney's score of 202 at the Agua Caliente AFA Collegiate Invitational set a new school record for lowest individual score (54 holes), while Shaun O'Bryant (210) and Andrew Gibson (211) rank tied for sixth and tied for 11th, respectively.

    Whitney also shot a 211 at the Wolf Pack Classic, while his score of 214 at the Shootout at Angel Park also ranks among the lowest individual tournament scores at the Academy. Whitney has now shot 214 or better six times in his career, behind only 2007 graduate Tyler Goulding (10 times).

    The Falcons also set a new team record for lowest score at the Agua Caliente (840), shattering the previous record by 11 strokes. Meanwhile, Air Force's score at the Shootout at Angel Park (883) ranks 20th on the list of lowest team scores in school history.

    The Falcons compete in their last regular season tournament of the year April 18-19, when they head to Provo, Utah, for the annual PING Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU.
