The Air Force golf team returns to action, March 15-16, at the Triumph at Pauma Valley, hosted by the University of San Francisco. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-71, 7,077 yard Pauma Valley Country Club in Pauma Valley, Calif. The first two 18-hole rounds will take place on Monday, with the final round played on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available through golfstat.com.
Last Time Out...
The Air Force golf team tied for 10th place at the Border Olympics, hosted by Houston, March 5-6. The Falcons posted a score of 903 for the tournament. Leading the way for Air Force was senior Tom Whitney, who registered his sixth top-10 finish of the season, tying for eighth place at 219 (+3).
The Field...
The field for this week's tournament features 12 teams. The complete field, with Golfweek/Sagarin rankings in parentheses, follows: Air Force (153), British Columbia, Campbell (99), Central Arkansas (86), Columbia, Hartford, Jackson State, Long Beach State (98), Loyola Marymount (147), Portland (172), San Francisco `A' (126) and San Francisco `B'.
In the Rankings...
According to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings (updated March 8), senior Tom Whitney is ranked among the top 100 collegiate golfers, coming in at No. 93. Meanwhile, his season stroke average of 71.42 is the fifth-best in the Mountain West Conference.
