March 7, 2013
Air Force junior Kyle Westmoreland has been selected Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week for tournaments played Feb. 26 – March 4.
In a field of 88 golfers at the Snowman Getaway Invitational, hosted by Washington State, Westmoreland finished in a tie for sixth place after carding a 54-hole total of 2-under-par 214 (76-66-72) on the par 72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Course in Chandler, Ariz.
After firing a 4-over 76 in the first round, he shot a career-best 66 in the second round. It was the second-lowest score of the tournament behind Washington State’s Michael Anderson who posted a 65 in the second round. Westmoreland’s second-round total was also the lowest score by a Falcon since Tom Whitney shot a 66 in the third round of the PING Cougar Classic on April 24, 2010.
Westmoreland concluded the tournament with an even-par 72 in the final round and secured his fourth top 10 finish of the season. As a team, Air Force place fifth in the 14-team tournament with a score of 6-over 870.
Through 20 rounds this season, Westmoreland ranks 15th in the Mountain West with a 72.85 stroke average.
