Air Force senior Kyle Westmoreland will compete in the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational beginning Friday, Jan. 31 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga. Westmoreland, who won the Patriot All-America Invitational last month, will be in a field of 90 players comprised of the best amateur golfers in the world, representing 18 countries.
Inaugurated in 2001, the Jones Cup Invitational was formed from a deep commitment to
amateur golf by the A.W. Jones family, and annually attracts the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad for this three-day competition. Past participants range from current and future PGA Tour stars including Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson, Chris Kirk, Jeff Overton, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson, Gary Woodland and Jordan Spieth.
The 2014 event will host, arguably, the strongest field in the tournament’s history. After coming close to hoisting the trophy a year ago, Cory Whitsett from the University of Alabama, will return after a strong summer season that ended with his selection to the victorious US Walker Cup team. Whitsett’s US Walker Cup teammates Bobby Wyatt, Michael Weaver, Nathan Smith and Todd White will all battle
Whitsett for the top spot. 2013 British Amateur Champion, Garrick Porteous, will compete as he prepares his game for The Masters in April.
