Air Force Finishes Seventh At Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

Las Cruces, N.M. - Saving its best round for last, the Air Force golf team finished in seventh place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, being held at the par-72, 7,074-yard NMSU Golf Course. The Falcons fired a 287 in the final round, bringing their score to 888 (+24). The host Aggies won the team title, finishing at 851, while Nebraska's Brady Schmell earned medalist honors.
Leading the way for Air Force was freshman Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who fired a 68 in the final round to finish at 215 (-1) in a tie for 11th place. Senior Chad Follett (El Paso, Texas) was next for the Falcons, turning in his best round on Tuesday to finish tied for 25th at 223.
Sophomore Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished tied for 38th at 226 after shooting an even-72 in the final round and senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.), ended in a tie for 48th place at 230. Meanwhile, sophomore Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) rounded out the scorers for Air Force, finishing in a tie for 51st place at 231. Also competing as an individual was junior Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.), who finished in 64th place with a score of 242.
The Falcons are now finished for the fall season and will return to action in the spring, when they head to the UTSA Intercollegiate, Feb. 19-20, in San Antonio, Texas.
