Falcons Finish 12th at Sycuan Collegiate Invitational
Oct. 21, 2008 EL CAJON, Calif. - Led by junior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), the Air Force golf team finished in 12th place at the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational, hosted by San Diego State at the 6,687-yard, par-72 Willow Glen Golf Course. The Falcons' three-round total of 875 (+11) for the tournament ranks among top-15 lowest team scores in school history. Whitney, who finished tied for 24th, fired a 70 on Tuesday to bring his three-round total to 213 (-3). It marks the fourth time in five tournaments this season that Whitney has turned in a score of 213 or lower. Next in the individual standings for the Falcons was senior Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who finished tied for 55th at 218, while classmate Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) ended in a tie for 79th place at 223. Sophomore Aaron White (Hereford, Texas), who fired an even-par 72 in round three, finished a stroke behind at 224, while Kyle Bailey (So., Austin, Texas) rounded out the group of Falcons with a score of 229. Conference rival Colorado State claimed the team title, finishing one stroke ahead of UC Santa Barbara with a three-round score of 837 (-27). Meanwhile, Wichita State's Dustin Garza captured medalist honors after finishing 16 strokes under par. The Falcons wrap up the fall season next week, Oct. 27-28, at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State.
