Air Force Finish Opening Day at Purple & Red Invitational

LAYTON, Utah - After two rounds of action, the Air Force golf team is tied for ninth place at the Purple & Red Invitational, co-hosted by Weber State and Utah at the par-72, 7,147-yard Valley View Golf Course. The Falcons currently sit at 8-over-par with a team score of 584. Leading the way for Air Force going into the final round are sophomore Wes Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas), who both finished Monday with an even-par 144 to tie for 21st place individually. Junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) is next in the standings for Air Force, tied for 43rd place at 147. Sophomore Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.) is currently tied for 51st place with an opening day score of 149, while freshman Kyle Westmoreland (Katy, Texas) rounds out the team, sitting tied for 73rd place at 154. In addition, two Air Force golfers are competing as individuals in this week’s tournament. Junior Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) is tied for 34th place in the standings at 146, while classmate Travis Deckert (Wichita, Kan.) sits in a tie for 62nd place with a score of 151. Leading the way in the team standings after the first day of action is Washington State, which fired a 559 (-17) on the opening day of action. Meanwhile, Sacramento State’s Jake Johnson sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 9-under-par 135. The final round of the Purple & Red Invitational begins tomorrow with tee times starting at 8:10 a.m. Day One Results
