Air Force Finishes 11th At District 7 Shootout

Las Vegas, Nev. - Saving its best round for last, the Air Force golf team finished in 11th place at the District 7 Shootout, hosted by Hawaii at the 6,722-yard, par-71 Angel Park GC-Mountain Course. The Falcons shot a 286 on Tuesday to bring their three-round total to 864 (+12). Pacing Air Force at the Shootout were senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) and freshman Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), both tied for 30th place at 214 (+1). Sophomore Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) sat three strokes behind in a tie for 48th place, while senior Chad Follett (El Paso, Texas) finished in 61st place at 220. Completing the group for the Falcons was junior Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.), who finished with a three-round score of 231. Mountain West foe San Diego State brought home the team title, firing an 822 (-30) for the tournament, while the Aztecs' Aaron Goldberg won a playoff against Boise State's Troy Merritt to earn medalist honors, finishing at 201 (-12). The Falcons return to action in two weeks, Oct. 23-24, when they head to Dallas, Texas, to take part in the Service Academy Golf Classic. Air Force has won the last 11 SAGC titles and will look to make it 12 in a row at the annual event.
