In its first tournament of the season, the Air Force golf team finished eighth at its own Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, being held at the par-72, 7,363-yard Eisenhower Golf Club-Blue Course. The Falcons combined for a team score of 882 (+18).

Air Force landed three players in the top 30, led by sophomore Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.), who tied for 19th in the standings at 219 (+3). Freshman Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas) followed just one stroke behind to finish tied for 21st place, while senior captain Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) tied for 29th overall with a score of 222 (+6).

Rounding out the Falcons' varsity group were Kyle Westmoreland (Fr., Katy, Texas), who tied for 36th in the standings with a 7-over-par 223, and Travis Deckert (Jr., Wichita, Kan.), who finished tied for 61st at 227. Meanwhile, the Air Force `B' team finished tied for 17th in the team standings with a score of 923.

Pacing the `B' team was junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas), who tied for 36th place overall. Following Leestma was classmate Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas), who finished tied for 53rd place at 226. Also competing for the `B' team were Miguel Macias (Fr., Santa Fe, N.M.), Blake Jones (Fr., Camas, Wash.) and Daniel Katz (So., Encino, Calif.), while sophomore Wes Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio) competed as an individual.

The Falcons are back in action Sept. 27-28, when they head to Boulder, Colo., for the Mark Simpson Invitational.
