Hoops leads Falcons after two rounds

Led by sophomore Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.), the Air Force golf team sits in seventh place at its own Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, being held at the par-72, 7,363-yard Eisenhower Golf Club-Blue Course. After two rounds of action, the Falcons have put together a team score of 587 (+11).

Hoops recorded a 70 in the opening round before finishing the day at 145 (+1), which is currently tied for 15th place. Kyle Bailey (Sr., Austin, Texas) and Philip Colwell (Fr., The Woodlands, Texas) are next in the individual standings for the Falcons, tied for 27th place at 147. Rounding out the team's top group are Kyle Westmoreland (Fr., Katy, Texas) and Travis Deckert (Jr., Wichita, Kan.), who are tied for 48th overall with a two-round score of 150. Meanwhile, the Air Force `B' team sits in 16th place, posting a score of 615 after two rounds.

Leading the way for the `B' team on Sunday is junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas). Leestma shot a team-best 69 in the opening round and is currently tied for 19th place with a score of 146 (+2). Meanwhile, junior Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) is also in the top 50, tied for 43rd place at 149. Also competing for the `B' team are Miguel Macias (Fr., Santa Fe, N.M.), Blake Jones (Fr., Camas, Wash.) and Daniel Katz (So., Encino, Calif.), while sophomore Wes Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio) competed as an individual.

Leading the way in the team standings after the first day of action is UCCS, which sits at 574 (-3). Meanwhile, Colorado State's Ryan Peterson sits atop the individual leaderboard at 137 (-7).

The final round of the Falcon Invitational begins tomorrow morning with an 8:15 shotgun start.
