Air Force Finishes 11th At Falcon Invitational

USAFA, Colo. - With its best round coming on the final day of action, the Air Force golf team finished in 11th place at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, held at the 7,301-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Blue Course. The Falcons fired a three-round score of 885, while the Air Force Blue Team finished in 16th place at 904. Wichita State and Iowa State ended the weekend tied for first at 852 (-12), with Wichita State winning a playoff to take the championship. Meanwhile, Wichita State's Ryan Spears won medalist honors with a tournament-record 203 (-13). Junior Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) paced the Falcons with a three-round score of 73, finished tied for 19th place at 218 (+2). Meanwhile, classmate Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sat just one stroke behind, tying for 29th overall. The Air Force senior class put forth a solid showing on Sunday, with all three members firing below par. Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) recorded a 71 in round three to finish tied for 51st. Meanwhile, Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.) and Jared Freeman (Brazil, Ind.), competing for the Blue Team, fired a 69 and 70, respectively. Tanis led the Blue Team for the weekend, tied for 55th at 226. Rounding out the group for the Falcons were Jack Kasting (Fr., Jenks, Okla.) and Tom Whitney (So., La Quinta, Calif.), while sophomore Peter Guzowski (Tiffin, Ohio) and freshmen Aaron White (Hereford, Texas) and Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) competed for the Blue Team. In addition, Lucas Catalano (So., Lousiville, Colo.) and Kyle Hagen (Fr., Kingsport, Tenn.) competed as individuals.
The Falcons return to action next weekend, Sept. 14-15, when they head to the annual William H. Tucker Invitational, hosted by New Mexico. Final Results Air Force Blue 308-297-299 904
