Air Force in Eighth Place at MWC Championship

    TUCSON, Ariz. - With just one round remaining, the Air Force golf team is in eighth place at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championship, being held at the par-71, 7,144-yard Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National. The Falcons fired a team score of 294 (+10) on Friday to bring their two-round score to a 15-over-par 583.

    Junior Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) continues to lead the Falcons, sitting in a tie for eighth place individually. Belz recorded an even-par 71 on Friday and is now 2-under-par for the tournament. Next in the lineup for Air Force are Kyle Bailey (Sr., Austin, Texas) and Kyle Westmoreland (Fr., Katy, Texas), who are tied for 35th at 149 (-1).

    Freshman Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas) is in 38th place individually with a score of 150 (+8), while Caleb Leestma (Jr., Seabrook, Texas) carded the Falcons' second-best round of the day on Friday to move into 42nd place at 155.

    Eighth-ranked San Diego State remains atop the team leaderboard with a two-round score of 559 (-9), sitting a single stroke ahead of second-place UNLV. Meanwhile, Wyoming's Gabe Maier, the individual leader on day one, is currently tied for first place along with the Aztecs' Johan Carlsson and the Rebels' Derek Ernst, with all three carrying scores of 135 (-7) into the final round.

    The final round of the Mountain West Conference Championship will begin tomorrow morning at 7:00 (PT).
