Falcons Conclude Opening Day at MWC Championship

    TUCSON, Ariz. -

    After one day of action, the Air Force golf team is in seventh place at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championship, being held at the par-71, 7,144-yard Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National. The Falcons posted a team score of 304 (+20) on the opening day of competition.

    Pacing Air Force after one round is freshman Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.), who sits in a tie for 21st place at 74 (+3). Sophomore Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) and senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) are next for the Falcons, currently tied for 27th place at 76.

    Meanwhile, Caleb Leestma (So., Seabrook, Texas) and Kyle Bailey (Jr., Austin, Texas) complete the Air Force lineup, each shooting a 78 in the opening round to tie for 36th place at the end of day one.

    Colorado State leads in the team standings after the first day of competition with score of 283 (-1) after one round. Meanwhile, four golfers shot a 1-under-par 70 on Thursday to tie for first place in the individual standings.

    The second round of the Mountain West Conference Championship will begin tomorrow morning at 7:00 (PT), while the final round will be played on Saturday.
