Sparked by a team-best two-under par 69 by sophomore Kyle Westmoreland, the Air Force golf team moved into a tie for seventh place after two rounds of the 2012 Mountain West Championships, being held at the par-71, 7,144-yard Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National. The Falcons posted a team score of 293 (+9) Saturday in the second round and their two-round total of 590 is even with the University of Wyoming.
Westmoreland, who shot an opening-round 80 on Friday, is tied for 27th place with a two round total of seven-over par 149, as is senior Robert Belz, who backed up a first round 76 with a 73 on Saturday. Those two Falcons are two shots behind sophomore Philip Colwell, who sits in a tie for 25th place after a three-over par 74 on Saturday and has a two round total of five-over par 147.
San Diego State leads in the team standings with a score of 558 (-10) after two rounds and the Aztecs' Tom Perry and Alex Kang are tied for the lead at -5.
The final round of the Mountain West Championships will begin Sunday morning at 7:00 (PT).
