Falcons in Eighth Place After First Day of MW Championships

The Air Force golf team is in eighth place after the first round of the 2012 Mountain West Championships, being held at the par-71, 7,144-yard Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National. The Falcons posted a team score of 297 (+13) Friday on the opening day of competition.
Pacing Air Force after the first round are junior Andrew Hoops and sophomore Philip Colwell, who each sit in a tie for 20th place at 73 (+2). Seniors Caleb Leestma (T, 32nd) and Robert Belz (35th) are next for the Falcons after shooting a 75 and 76, respectively.
Sophomore Kyle Westmoreland rounds out the Air Force lineup, shooting an 80 on Friday to tie for 39th place at the end of day one.
San Diego State leads in the team standings with a score of 280 (-4) after one round and Zahkai Brown of Colorado State leads the individual race with a five-under par 66 on Friday.
The second round of the Mountain West Championships will begin Saturday morning at 7:00 (PT), with the final round on Sunday.
