Falcons Tie for Sixth Place at PING Cougar Classic

    The Air Force men's golf team shot a six-over par 294 Saturday in the final round to finish in a tie for sixth place with Boise State at the PING Cougar Classic, hosted by Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah. The Falcons finished with a 15-over par total of 879 on the par-72, 7,142-yard Riverside Golf Club.

    Sophomore Kyle Westmoreland led the Falcons on Saturday, firing a one-under par 71 the final round for a three-round total of one-under par 215. Westmoreland secured his fifth career top-10 finish by tying for 10th place with Blake Biddle of UNLV. Senior Robert Belz finished in a tie for 21st with a total of 221, followed by junior Andrew Hoops, who finished in a tie for 28th with a total of 223 and sophomore Philip Colwell, whose total of 224 placed him in a tie for 33rd. Senior Caleb Leestma rounded rounded out the squad with a 226 and 41st place.

    BYU won the tournament, defeating second-place Colorado State by five strokes, while CSU's Zahkai Brown won individual honors with an 11-under par total of 205.

    The Falcons travel to Tucson, Az., next weekend for the 2012 Mountain West Championships, which begin on Friday, May 4.
