Falcons Finish 11th at PING Cougar Classic
April 25, 2009 PROVO, Utah - In its final tournament of the regular season, the Air Force golf team finished 11th Saturday at the PING Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU at the par-72, 7,142-yard Riverside Country Club. The Falcons posted a score of 885 (+21) over three rounds of competition. Air Force's top performer for the 11th time in as many tournaments this season was junior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) who placed in a tie for 23rd overall with a mark of 218 (+2). Senior Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who posted Air Force's best score in the third round along with Kyle Bailey (So., Austin, Texas), finished a stroke behind in a tie for 25th place. Bailey ended the weekend tied for 48th at 224, while freshman Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) fired a 225 to place in a tie for 53rd place. Also competing for Air Force was sophomore Aaron White (Hereford, Texas), who turned in his best round of the tournament on Saturday, placing 74th overall with a score of 236. Host BYU captured the team title with a score of 842 (-22), while Southern Utah's Matt MacArthur took medalist honors with an 11-under-par 205. Next up for the Falcons is the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championship, being held April 30-May 2 at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
