Air Force Wraps Up Opening Day at MWC Golf Championship

    Tucson, Ariz. - After one round of competition, the Air Force golf team sits in ninth place at the Mountain West Conference Championship, being held at the 7,136 yard, par-71 Catalina Course at Tucson National. The Falcons are currently 21-over-par with an opening round score of 305.

    Pacing the Falcons on the opening day of competition are junior Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) and sophomore Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.). Gibson and Whitney each shot first round scores of 75 (+4) and are tied for 31st place overall.

    Meanwhile, the remaining three Air Force golfers are clustered together in the individual standings. Senior Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) is tied for 37th at 77, junior Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is a stroke behind in a tie for 40th place and freshman Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) is in 43rd place at 79.

    UNLV currently holds the team lead at 281 (-3), while San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg sits atop the individual leaderboard with an opening round score of 67 (-4).

    Round two begins tomorrow with a 7:00 a.m. (PT) start. Air Force will be in the first group to tee off, along with New Mexico and Wyoming.
