Air Force Golfers Wrap Up Day One at PING Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah - After two rounds of competition, the Air Force golf team sits in 11th place at the PING Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU at the par-72, 7,142-yard Riverside Country Club. The Falcons enter the final round with a score of 591 (+15). Leading the way for Air Force on Friday was senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who is currently tied for 14th place with an even-par 144 after two rounds. Freshman Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.), who fired an even-par 72 in the opening round, is next in the standings for the Falcons, sitting in a tie for 32nd place at 147 (+3). In addition, sophomore Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) turned in the low score for Air Force in the second round and is currently in a tie for 57th place at 151, while Robert Belz (So., San Antonio, Texas) is a stroke behind in a tie for 66th place. Rounding out the group of competitors for the Falcons is junior Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas), who is in 93rd place overall. Colorado State leads in the team standings after the first day of competition with a two-round score of 569 (-7), while Augusta State’s Patrick Reed sits atop the individual leaderboard at 135 (-9).
