Air Force Wraps Up Competition at Border Olympics
March 26, 2011 LAREDO, Texas - Led by freshman Kyle Westmoreland (Katy, Texas), the Air Force golf team placed 17th at the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club. The Falcons, who fired a 303 in the final round, turned in a team score of 897 (+33) for the tournament. Westmoreland finished the weekend tied for 55th place individually with a score of 222 (+8). Junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) was next for the Falcons, tying for 79th place at 226, while Philip Colwell (Fr., The Woodlands, Texas) finished a stroke behind in a tie for 85th place. Senior Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) turned in a score of 229 for the tournament, while Andrew Hoops (So., Highland, Calif.), whose 75 in the final round was the low score of the day for Air Force, finished a stroke behind. In addition, Mark Boyer (Jr., Hershey, Pa.), competing as an individual, posted a three-round total of 254. Sixteenth-ranked Arkansas captured the team title, finishing with a three-round score of 832 (-32), while Rice’s Micha el Whitehead earned medalist honors, finishing 19 strokes under par with a score of 197. Air Force returns to action April 4-5, when they head to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the annual Cowboy Classic, hosted by the University of Wyoming. Final Results 17 Air Force 294-300-303 897
