Falcons Complete Opening Day at Border Olympics

    LAREDO, Texas -

    After two rounds of action, the Air Force golf team is in 17th place at the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club. The Falcons shot a two-round score of 594 (+18).

    Leading the way for Air Force on the first day of competition is freshman Kyle Westmoreland (Katy, Texas), who is currently tied for 43rd place at 146 (+2). Classmate Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas) sits two strokes behind in a tie for 55th place, while junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) is tied for 73rd place at 150.

    Also competing for the Falcons are Kyle Bailey (Sr., Austin, Texas) and Andrew Hoops (So., Highland, Calif.), with scores of 153 and 155, respectively. In addition, Mark Boyer (Jr., Hershey, Pa.), competing as an individual, has posted a score of 168 on the opening day of competition.

    Sharing the lead in the team standings after two rounds are Oklahoma and No. 16 Arkansas, sitting at 553 (-23). Meanwhile, Arkansas’ Sebastian Cappelen is currently first on the individual leaderboard, firing an 11-under-par 133 on the first day of action.

    The final round of the Border Olympics will be played tomorrow.
