Golfers Finish Seventh at Desert Shootout

    The Air Force golf team shot a two-over par 290 Saturday in the final round and finished in seventh place at the 2012 Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz. The Falcons completed the tournament with a five-under par total of 859 on the par-72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Golf Course, one shot behind sixth-place Tulsa and 23 shots behind tourney champion Wichita State.

    Individually, junior Andrew Hoops led the Falcons by finishing in a tie for 12th place after tying his season-best round of 69 on Saturday. Hoops finished with a four-under par total of 212. Senior Robert Belz, who was in the top ten after each of the first two rounds, and sophomore Kyle Westmoreland each finished at one-uner par and tied for 21st. Westmoreland fired a 72 on Saturday, while Belz shot a 75.

    Freshman Blake Edwards tied for 48th after shooting a 75 on Saturday and senior Caleb Leestma tied for 57th after a 74 in the final round. Sophomores Jack Howard (T, 72nd) and Todd Berglund (88th) participated as individuals.

    The Falcons are idle until the Cowboy Shootout in Scottsdale, Ariz., on April 9.
