Falcons Finish Ninth at San Diego Intercollegiate Classic

Turning in its best round of the tournament on Tuesday, the Air Force golf team finished ninth at the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic, being held at the par-72, 7,050-yard San Diego Country Club. The Falcons, scoring their top five of six competitors, shot a 382 in the final round to finish the tournament with a score of 1165 (+85).
Freshman Kyle Westmoreland (Katy, Texas) was Air Force’s top finisher, tying for 31st with a score of 226 (+10) after firing a team-low 74 on Tuesday. Philip Colwell (Fr., The Woodlands, Texas) and Caleb Leestma (Jr., Seabrook, Texas), who also fired a 74 in the final round, came in four strokes behind, tied for 41st place.
Senior Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) tied for 55th place individually with a three-round score of 237, followed by Andrew Hoops (So., Highland, Calif.) and Mark Boyer (Jr., Hershey, Pa.) who tied for 65th and placed 74th, respectively.
SMU and UT Arlington finished tied for first place in the team standings at 1093 (+13), with SMU winning the team championship in a card-off. Meanwhile, UTA’s Paul McConnell earned medalist honors, finishing with a 2-under-par 214 for the tournament.
The Falcons will be back in action March 25-26, as they head to Laredo, Texas, for the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston.
