Falcons Currently Fifth at Triumph at Pauma Valley

    PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. -

    Led by senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), the Air Force golf team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Triumph at Pauma Valley, hosted by San Francisco at the par-71, 7,077-yard Pauma Valley Country Club. The Falcons, who fired a 613 (+45) on Monday, are currently in fifth place in the team standings.

    Whitney is currently tied for first place in the individual standings with a two-round total of 143 (+1). His score of 70 in the second round was tied for the lowest among all golfers on Monday. Meanwhile, freshman Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.) is currently tied for 10th place overall, after turning in a two-round score of 149 (+7).

    Junior Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) enters the final round tied for 35th place after finishing day one at 157 (+15), while Caleb Leestma (So., Seabrook, Texas) is tied for 56th place at 164. Rounding out the group of competitors for Air Force is sophomore Travis Deckert (Wichita, Kan.), who is in 67th place at 169.

    Host San Francisco sits atop the team leaderboard with a two-round total of 586 (+16). Meanwhile, sharing the top spot in the individual standings with Whitney is Central Arkansas' Steven Lecuyer.

    The final round of the Triumph at Pauma Valley is slated to begin Tuesday morning.
