The Air Force golf team sits in 16th place after the first round of the University of South Florida Invitational in Dade City, Fla. The Falcons shot a six-over par 294 Sunday, 19 shots behind tournament leaders UNC Greensboro and Florida State.
Individually, senior Kyle Westmoreland shot a season-low 66 (-6) and is in seventh place after the first round. Westmoreland birdied eight holes, including his final three, on Sunday and had one bogey. Fellow senior Philip Colwell is tied for 45th after a one-over par 73 while senior Jack Howard is tied for 55th place after a 74 on Sunday.
“Kyle had a great day today,” said Air Force head coach George Koury. “I wish we could have backed him up a little better. We will be better tomorrow and hopefully we learned from our mistakes today. If we want to be competitive, we need to find players to step up.”
