Air Force Wraps Up Competition at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate
Feb. 27, 2011 PALM DESERT, Calif. - Struggling on the final day of action, the Air Force golf team placed 20th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate being held at the par-72, 7,305-yard Classic Club. The Falcons finished the tournament with a three-round score of 951. Senior Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas), competing as an individual in this weekend’s tournament, was the top Air Force performer finished tied for 25th place at 226 (+10). Meanwhile, sophomore Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.) was the Falcons’ top scorer, tying for 65th place at 234. Freshman Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas) finished tied for 74th place in the individual standings with a score of 237, while Wes Denny (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Caleb Leestma (Jr., Seabrook, Texas) tied for 88th place at 242. Freshman Jack Howard (Fr., Cartersville, Ga.) rounded out the group with a three-round total of 247, tying for 96th place overall.
Eighth-ranked Texas A&M captured the team title, finishing with a three-round score of 879 (+15). Santa Clara’s Scott Travers earned medalist honors, winning a tiebreaker versus UNLV’s Kevin Penner after both individuals fired a 3-under-par 213 for the tournament. The Falcons will return to action March 14-15 at the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic in Chula Vista, Calif.
