Air Force Finishes Seventh at UTSA Intercollegiate

San Antonio, Texas - With an even-par round to end the tournament, the Air Force golf team finished in seventh place at the UTSA Intercollegiate, held at the 6,765 yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club. The Falcons ended the event at 36-over-par with a three-round score of 888. Air Force's final round was the best of the day among the 17-team field, with no team shooting under par on Tuesday. Leading the way for the Falcons was sophomore Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who shot a low-round of 66 on the final day to finish tied for ninth at 217 (+4). Whitney was one of just six golfers to fire under par in the final round. Meanwhile, brother Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) also ended up in the top 20, finishing tied for 18th overall at 221 (+8). Freshman Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) tied for 43rd place at 226, while junior Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.), who fired a 1-under-par 70 in the final round, ended tied for 50th at 228. Rounding out the group for Air Force was junior Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who finished tied for 53rd at 229. Mississippi State was able to hold onto the team title, finishing with a three-round score of 864 (+12) at 567, while the Bulldogs' Noah Goldman captured medalist honors with a 1-under-par 212. The Falcons are back in action March 7-9, when they head to the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, hosted by UNLV.
