Harrison Named One of Lou Groza Kicker Award Stars of the Week

Air Force senior Ryan Harrison was one three kickers awarded the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award "Stars of the Week" honor for his performance Sept. 6 at Wyoming. College football's top kicking award, The Groza Award "Stars of the Week" is sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission each week recognizing the three top kickers from Div. I schools who have made outstanding contributions during the past week.

Harrison extended his consecutive made field goal streak to 15 while making three field goals this weekend in a tough win against Wyoming. Harrison hit from 40, 27 and 44 yards to extend his impressive streak that dates back to last years New Mexico game and covers seven games. Harrison's two first half field goals gave Air Force the lead and his second half 44 yarder secured a big conference win for the Air Force Academy. Harrison is currently tied for the most field goals in the nation with six.

Wake Forest senior Sam Swank and Colorado State freshman Ben DeLine joined Harrison as Stars of the Week for week two.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award presented by the Fed Ex Orange bowl will be announced on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards aired on ESPN on Thursday December 11th. The three finalists will be honored at the Lou Groza Awards Banquet at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Tuesday December 9th.

The award, is named for National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame kicker Lou "the Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an "All Pro" offensive lineman, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
