April 25, 2007

Former Air Force football coach Fisher DeBerry will be honored with the career achievement award by the Denver Athletic Club at its annual awards banquet Thursday, May 17, at the DAC Grand Ballroom in Denver. The dinner and awards program begins at 7 p.m. There is also a reception starting at 5:30 p.m.

Other awards to be presented that night include the 2007 professional athlete award to Colorado Rockies star Matt Holliday and the collegiate athlete award to the Metro State women's soccer team. In addition, the Denver Athletic Club will be honoring its athletes of the year and will present the Denver Post / 9 news high school scholar-athlete of the year award.

DeBerry, who retired following the 2006 season after 23 years as head coach, led the Falcons to a remarkable 169-109-1 record and 12 post-season bowl games. A three-time conference coach of the year, DeBerry was named national coach of the year in 1985 while leading the Falcons to a 12-1 record and No. 5 final season national ranking. DeBerry equaled that mark in 1998 while leading Air Force to its only out-right conference title. The coach dominated service academy football. DeBerry was 35-11 against Army and Navy and led the school to 14 of its 16 Commander-in-Chief's Trophy titles.

Tickets to the event are $100 for adults and $50 for children 12 and under. Corporate sponsorships are $1,500. For further information about and reservations to the event, call Liana Camacho at 720-931-6785.
