To The Falcon Football Pride Club:
Back in June the Class of 2015 arrived on the grounds of the world's finest leadership institution- the United States Air Force Academy. Many of us can recall the early days at USAFA-the enormous opportunity for developing into future officers who serve and fight for our country's freedoms. And yet, it's also more than ok while they're at the Academy to have some fun flying around the field and playing Air Force Football.
Our players have already been involved in a variety of activities this Summer. Guys have been to Brazil for world immersion, Ops Air Force in Alaska, Georgia, Delaware and Europe. Many seniors completed powered flight in preparation for UPT following graduation. A bunch of Falcons knocked out classes in Astro, Advanced Chem, Econ, Law and Aero. Most Firsties and 2 degrees worked as squadron commanders/cadre for survival training or during 1st or 2nd Beast. What's interesting is how these Falcons still find ways to get their bodies and minds right to wear those lightning bolts with the kind of pride that has always been Air Force Football. The time will soon be here to crank up the 2011 Air Force Falcons.
Heading into our fifth year of the Falcon Football Pride Club, it's clear this organization has been a major spur in supporting our Air Force team. Man by man and year by year the FFPC has rapidly unified those close to Falcon Football. The Pride Club creates a special esprit while providing a conduit to give directly to Air Force Football for small projects. Here's what we've accomplished the past year:
- 9/11 Alcove-This alcove commemorates the Falcons 35-14 victory over BYU on Sept 11, 2010. NYPD Detective Steve Hayden and FDNY Firefighter Kenny Haskell served as Honorary Captains on this day and brought a flag that was flown over the world trade center site. Showcased will be the flag, game-day helmet and patches worn by NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority and a special 9/11 Pentagon patch.
- Multi-Media Kiosk-Located at the entrance to Heritage Hallway, this kiosk is touch screen interactive and showcases all available highlights from 59-Current. Relive your senior season with your family the next time you are at the Academy.
- Falcon Football Legacy Wall- The Falcon Football Legacy Wall includes plaques running the length of the west side of the second level at Falcon Stadium. Each class is represented with a bronze plaque bearing the names of that year's graduating team members and some of the team's history for that season. Already unveiled are the classes of '59 - '67, '70, '75, '79, '82, '85 and '87-'90. The classes of '68, '69, '81, and '91 have rapidly indicated their classes will soon join legacy wall on November 12th. If a class is able to raise $7000 by 15 SEP 2011, they will also have their plaques unveiled on alumni weekend. View current status and balance of paid dollars for each class by clicking here.
A key FFPC initiative this year is to increase membership and we need your help. Please encourage your fellow teammates and classmates to join the club and give back. With your $100 membership to the Falcon Football Pride Club for 2011 we can accomplish the following projects and hopefully more:
- Heritage Hallway improvements- Tile portions of Heritage Hallway with blue/silver tiles making the hallway less sterile. Add four "uniform combo" mannequins and display cases in hallway showcasing various football uniforms worn by the Falcons.
- Bowl banners in Holaday Athletic Center- Position every bowl game banner on side walls of HAC showcasing the tremendous success of Falcon Football over the years.
- Roll Call Wall-Honoring all Varsity letterman from 59-current who's ever strapped on a bolt. Each year will include the name and # of letters they've earned.
We hope to see a bunch of you for Falcon Football Alumni Weekend this year on Nov 11-12th when the Falcons take on Wyoming. Each of the past four Alumni Weekends have had more than 150 former team members returning to spur the Falcons to victory. Again, at this time we will recognize the new Class Plaques in addition to introducing our Former Falcons at halftime. The November 11-12 weekend may provide enough time for guys to come out early in the Fall for the Class Reunions and then make the trek back to the Academy to see our teammates.
The season kicks off on September 3rd, during Parent's Weekend, but there are plenty of weights to lift and work to do prior to the fall. Thanks again for your support of the Academy and Air Force Football. Air Force Football will continue to develop outstanding leaders who serve our nation on active duty and beyond. Help us get the word out to fellow players, managers, parents and coaches to sign up for their 2011 Falcon Football Pride Club membership here.
Go Falcons!
