To the Best Fans in College Football,
As we head into the 2008 football season, it’s a time of positive
growth inAir Force Athletics. I would like to express my appreciation
and thanks for your incredible support of the world’s finest leadership
and educational institution. There are many reasons why the Academy
is distinguished, but it starts with the remarkable dedication of our
supporters.
A key part of continuing to ensure our cadets have the utmost experiences
in their leadership development is to make certain they are well supported
in the future too. Throughout the fall of 2007, we were frequently
asked by Air Force Academy enthusiasts how they could provide even stronger
support for our athletic teams. Fans purchasing game tickets have
a profound impact on our cadet-athletes and teams. A perfect example
of the resounding pride of our fans was evident this past December in
preparation for the 2007 Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth. Because
of the resolve and leadership of our dedicated fans, we sold nearly 12,000
tickets through the Academy for the bowl game. As we look back
on a year of outstanding accomplishments, it positions us well for even
greater achievements in the years to come.
It’s
time to take the next step and we need your help in supporting a new
initiative. The Academy is pleased to announce a program called Season
Tickets for the Troops. You can help by purchasing
a season ticket for just $100. This $100 purchase will help underwrite
the cost for season tickets for enlisted members and their families at
Schriever AFB, Peterson AFB, the Air Force Academy and Fort Carson. In
turn, the Academy will be able to offer the tickets (in reserved sections
normally costing $144) to our young enlisted members at a deeply discounted
rate of $4 per game or $20 for the season and give these American heroes
a chance to come out and experience the pageantry that is Air Force Football. Season
Tickets for the Troops will positively influence the morale of our enlisted
airman/soldiers while also providing a huge boost to our athletic programs
and the game day spirit within Falcon Stadium. Whether you live
in Colorado or half way around the world, your support of the Season
Tickets for Troops program will make a great impact on a program you
hold near and dear.
Our
cadets face a demanding football schedule again this season. We
are still the only program in college football to play for two different
goals. There are encounters against our two service academy opponents
in addition to the very competitive Mountain West Conference docket. The
2008 Falcons face 6 teams who were bowl participants in 2007. The
2008 home schedule kicks off on August 30th for Parents Weekend as the
Falcons welcome Southern Utah. The home schedule rounds out with
games against MWC rivals Utah, New Mexico, BYU, CSU as well as service
academy foe Navy. When you consider the unmatched pride and pageantry
at Falcon Stadium combined with the mission our graduates serve as officers
on active duty, an Academy Football game is the most unique venue in
all of college football. By participating in the Season
Tickets for the Troops program, you will be helping our
soldiers and airman enjoy a great game day experience at Falcon Stadium.
Thanks again for your remarkable spirit and support. It’s
getting close to kick off for the 2008 season and we look forward to
seeing you in Falcon Stadium this fall. Go Falcons!
Sincerely,
Troy Calhoun
Head Football Coach
