Air Force Fencers Place in Top 10 at North American Cup

    With three days into the North American Cup Division II and III fencing tournaments, five Air Force fencers placed in the top 10, while the rest of the Academy's fencers placed in the top 50. The Academy sent 11 of its top fencers to participate in the NAC Division II and III fencing tournaments in Sandy, Utah, Oct. 5-8. Team scores are not kept in the NAC tournaments.

    In Division III men's sabre, team captain Eric Lathrop placed seventh, while in Division II, Sean Recame had a ninth-place showing in men's foil. Margaret Kucia placed ninth in the Division III women's foil competition. In Sunday's competition, Ashley Roell placed seventh in Division II women's foil and Elia Burrill finished eighth in women's epee.

    Here is how the rest of the team members finished in the first three days. In Division II, Curtis Marshall finished 11th in men's epee, Andrea Rix finished 30th in women's sabre, and Jamie Rasmussen finished 24th. Kucia also finished 30th in women's foil. In Division III, Andrew Greig placed 11th in men's sabre followed by Jared Parks with a 32nd place-finish. Roell also finished 29th in the women's foil event, and Kimberly Sugrue had a 41st placement in women's epee.
