Brown Earns Boxer Of The Week Honors
Nov. 26, 2001
Two-time national champion Dustin Brown completely dominated Lock Haven's Miro Jaley on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the eighth annual New York National Collegiate Boxing Association Invitational hosted by the New York Athletic Club.
A standing-room only crowd of 900 fans watched as Brown put Jaley on the canvas in all three rounds. "Dustin was cautious in the first round knowing Jaley had prior boxing experience in his home country of Bulgaria before joining the college ranks," said head coach Eddie Weichers. "But late in the round, Brown found his range and landed a hard right to Jeley's head to knock him down. Dustin prepared hard for this bout and it was evident that he was both sharp and focused."
For his victory, Brown earned Boxer of the Week honors.
Brown, the Falcon team captain, was just one of three Air Force winners. Vaughn Brazil defeated Lock Haven's Gus Pugliese in a 142-pound bout and Joe Harding won his 175-pound bout over Kentucky's Wes Smith. The lone AFA loss came in the 125-pound division when Adam Roberts lost a decision to Army's Fred Kim.
